XMPP ports and presence (one-X, Softphone)

March 23, 2012 in IP Office

I was running into an issue where Softphone and one-X were not working properly with regards to presence updates and chat/IM. Ran the Windows Firewall .bat file (http://ipofficeinfo.com/Software/avayafw2011.zip) and still had the problem. one-X “worked” and Softphone “worked” in so far as providing basic functionality, but presence was AWOL and IM was not an option.

On the VM/one-X server, the Domain Windows Firewall was enabled. Found that the .bat file does not open up the needed XMPP ports required for presence and IM. The TCP ports you need to allow for are  5222, 5269 and 8444. On Windows 2008 server, you can follow these steps to open these ports in a Windows Domain Firewall:

1) Open Server Manager
2) Expand Configuration
3) Expand Windows Firewall
4) Right click Inbound Rules
5) New Rule
6) Rule Type: Port
7) Allow TCP Ports  5222, 5269, 8444
