5410 Upgrade Issue
November 20, 2011 in IP Office
We are upgrading a 200+ phone (5410) user. Customer is running an IP412 and are currently on R 5.0.8. 6.1.20 is the new release (max for IP412 platform). The big concern we are confronted with prior to implementation of this upgrade is the 5410 upgrade issue.
The problem is detailed in Avaya’s Technical Bulletin 91 from January ’08:
Technical Bulletin 91
In short, here are the serial numbers of the phones effected by this problem:
700382005 IP OFFICE 5410D01B-2001 07N543XXXXXX to 08N503XXXXXX
Fortunately, our small sample size (~10%) revealed no phones within this serial number range. Therefore, we are feeling good about proceeding with this upgrade while not worrying too much about rendering 200+ phones inoperable.
Nonetheless, the customer is going to proceed to continue checking serial numbers prior to upgrade. We asked the salesperson to provide a list of serial numbers from the batch of phones that were sold to the customer in early 2007; unfortunately she was unable to provide this information.
Here is the key for your upgrades of this nature – whether you have 5410 phones within this range of serial numbers or not:
In the “NoUser” user configured in Manager, you must make sure that the following entry does NOT appear:
ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES
With the above line present, the 5410′s will not attempt a firmware upgrade following the switch upgrade.
